Biography
Alice Yutong Hua is an interdisciplinary artist who works primarily in installation, image, and painting.
“I work with records: by collecting, organizing, and interpreting memory, trace, meaningful objects, or simply passage of time that are extracted from our everyday life, I receive the initial momentum of a project. The idea with a highly emotional undertone is then layered and expanded into a contextualized narrative of our contemporary scene that deploys the innate quality of the media, whether tangible or intangible. Upon finishing, the idea is eventually articulated into a specific physical situation as needed. If this conversation from a personal perspective has been activated successfully, me the artist, and my audience, will share the incidental experience as a collective.”
Born and raised in Shanghai, Hua received a BA of Studio Art, minoring in chemistry and music from Colby College, Maine, and received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2023. She now lives and works in New York and Shanghai. Her works have been shown in Three Shadows Photography Art Center, Cranbrook Museum of Art, Colby College Museum of Art, Untitled Space, and other galleries.
